Best Time To Travel –
Bangkok & Central Thailand: November to February offers the most comfortable sightseeing weather, as humidity is lower. April is intensely hot, while the monsoon season brings heavy rain from May through October.
Andaman Coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi): The best months are December to March. You will experience calm seas and long sunny days, perfect for island hopping. Avoid the heavy rains from May to October.
Gulf Coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao): The weather here differs from the rest of the country. The best time to visit is January to May. The heaviest rains and monsoon winds hit this coast between September and December.
Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai): The dry season runs from November to May. It is a fantastic time for trekking and exploring temples, though March and April can be smoky due to local agricultural burning.Â
Capital City – The capital of Thailand is Bangkok. The city center is approximately 50-60 minutes drive from the airport.
Currency – The national currency in Thailand is the Thai Bhat. The approximate exchange is $1 = 22BHT. There is plenty of banks and ATM’s available in Bangkok and other cities. You can use your credit card in all hotels and you can also order local currency in cash before you travel. It is advisable to take US Dollars with you as well and these are easily changeable and can be used for purchases in many places.Â
Approximate Travel Time – Flight times from Australia to Bangkok vary depending on your departure city, ranging from 7-10 hours for direct flights and 11-14+ hours for connecting flights.Â
Religion –Â Thailand is predominantly a Buddhist country, with over \(90\%\) of the population identifying as Theravada Buddhists. While it serves as the spiritual and cultural foundation of the nation, the Thai Constitution guarantees religious freedom for all citizens, alongside significant minority populations of Muslims and Christian50% of people living in Thailand practice Thailand Folk Religion. Thailand folk religion is not an organised religious system, but a set of local worship traditions devoted to ancestors, national heroes, and gods of nature. 20% of the population practice Buddhism, 10% Catholicism and the remaining 20% identify as non-religious.
Famous Dish – Pad Thai is the most famous Thai dish worldwide. This beloved street-food staple consists of stir-fried rice noodles tossed in a tangy tamarind sauce, fish sauce, lime, and chili. It is typically cooked with eggs, tofu, bean sprouts, and your choice of chicken or shrimp, and finished with a garnish of crushed peanutsÂ
Visa Required – f you’re visiting Thailand for tourism or short-term travel, you may be able to get a visa exemption (visa-free travel) to stay for up to 60 days. You must complete a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 3 days before arriving in Thailand.Â
Fitness Level – We rate our Thailand tours at a low fitness level. Some walking is always required around sights and monuments so you must be mobile enough to walk short distances and climb stairs.Â
