Everybody loves a few travel facts and our India Travel Snapshot gives you a brief idea of what to expect when planning a holiday to India. Read on below as we expand on our travel bites…

Best Time To Travel –  The best time to visit India is between October and April. The best time to visit the south and cruise the backwaters in November to February. Travel is best avoided in the north from May to July as it is very hot and make sightseeing very uncomfortable. The monsoon also usually hits in June and July.

Capital City – The capital of India is Delhi. Delhi spans 1484 km² and has a population of 18million. Thats busy! 

Currency – The national currency in India is the Indian Rupee. The approximate exchange rate is AUD $1 = 55 Rupee. It is a good idea to take USD in cash with you as this currency can always be used in India. There are ATM’s and money exchanges in all major cities and our tour guides can help with exchange money while you are on tour in India. 

Approximate Travel Time – 11-14 hours. You can fly direct to Delhi from Sydney in roughly 11 hours, but all other cities from Australia will require a stopover with an average travel time of 13-14 hours.

Religion – There are many different religions in India. The main one being Hindu with approximately 80% of the population. The other religions practised in India include Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism and Sikhism. 

Famous Dish –  Thali is the most popular dish in India. It is a Hindu word that translates to ‘large plate’ and it is usually a round platter made up with many small bowls of various foods including chutney, pickles, dahl, rice, salad, chapatis/roti and a desert like gulab jamun. When you visit India make sure you enjoy plenty of Thali’s.

Visa Required – Yes. Australian citizens will require a visa to travel to India. You can obtain an e-visa online prior to travel which will allow you 30 days and costs approximately $50USD.

Fitness Level – Our India tours require only a low level of fitness. There is a lot of driving involved due to the distances. However, you will have to be mobile and able to walk around monuments.
