ACTIVITIES & MARINE LIFE

Activities are abundant at Sun Island – adrenalin-fuelled experiences such as water sports and scuba diving, to leisurely bike rides around the island.  The South Ari Atoll is one of the best places in the Maldives to have an encounter with a whale shark in the warm azure waters. There are very few places where whale sharks can be found consistently and one of them is the southernmost outside reef of the South Ari Atoll. Whale sharks can grow up to 18 meters in length and feed on plankton. They are completely harmless to us and peacefully cruise along the stretch of outside reef.

The location also offers a high chance of encountering mantas, stingrays, sharks, and a variety of other marine life while diving, snorkelling and swimming. The resort has its own Dive Centre on site – one of the largest in the country and offers a range of day and night dive excursions, snorkelling trips, and diving courses.

As you walk around the island you will see various migratory birds take shelter in the dense tropical vegetation. Visit the bird sanctuary located close to the botanical gardens and enjoy the bird songs and become at one with nature.

RELAXATION

Visit the Araamu Spa nestled in a quiet corner of the island, surrounded by swaying palms and tropical greenery. Araamu  means ‘a blissful state of relaxation’ and this tranquil retreat is definitely the perfect place to unwind.
