Today, you will make your own way to the Hurtigruten cruise terminal in Bergen. The terminal is 17 kilometers from the airport, and there is a regular shuttle service available that you can book and pay for upon arrival. Alternatively, MyHoliday2 can arrange the shuttle transfer for you at a cost of $60 per person one way.

Your voyage starts in Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city and the gateway to the fjords. Founded in 1070 AD, Bergen showcases architecture influenced by the prosperous 14th-century Hanseatic League, a German trading organization that left a lasting mark on the city.

If you have time before your ship departs, make sure to visit the UNESCO-listed wharfs of the colorful Bryggen district. This historic area has transformed into an artisan quarter, featuring charming cobblestone streets. Just across the street, you’ll find the famous Fish Market, where you can indulge in delicious seafood. Another must-see is the Fløibanen funicular, which takes you up to the top of Mount Fløyen, offering stunning views of the city.

To make the most of your visit to Norway, remember that we can assist in arranging tours before or after your voyage, such as the popular Norway in a Nutshell program.

As your voyage begins, you can relax in our comfortable guest lounge at the terminal before boarding. Once aboard, you will be treated to the first of many delectable meals made from fresh coastal produce as we depart Bergen and sail the old Viking route along Hjeltefjord.

Ålesund is renowned for its stunning Art Nouveau architecture, which gives the city a unique and enchanting atmosphere. One of the highlights of this picturesque town is Atlanterhavsparken, one of Northern Europe’s largest saltwater aquariums. If you’re traveling with us in the spring or winter, you’ll have most of the day to explore Ålesund and immerse yourself in its beauty and culture.

In the summer, our journey continues to the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord. This pristine fjord is a protected paradise, featuring towering mountain cliffs and spectacular waterfalls such as the famous Seven Sisters, which cascade dramatically into the fjord below.

During spring and autumn, your ship will sail to the hidden gem of Hjørundfjord, nestled in the Sunnmøre Alps. This serene fjord offers a more secluded experience, allowing you to appreciate its untouched beauty. We will also visit the scenic village of Urke, where you can take in views of ancient farms, the fjord, and the lush mountainsides. As we continue our voyage, we enter the Trøndelag region of Norway, characterized by its rolling hills, fields dotted with farmsteads, and picturesque coastal settlements. This area offers a glimpse into the traditional Norwegian way of life, with its scenic landscapes and charming rural communities.

Founded by Viking king Olav Tryggvason in 997, Trondheim is now Norway’s third-largest city. It seamlessly blends historic charm with a vibrant modern atmosphere, thanks in part to its large student population.

A must-see site in Trondheim is Nidaros Cathedral, often referred to as “Norway’s Notre Dame” for its impressive Gothic architecture. It is considered the most sacred building in Norway. Adjacent to the cathedral is the Archbishop’s Palace, where you can view Norway’s crown jewels.

A short walk from the cathedral will take you to the old city bridge, Gamle Bybro, which spans the Nid River and marks the entrance to the historic Hanseatic district of Bakklandet. This neighborhood, with its colorful wooden wharves perched on stilts by the river’s edge, is now home to a variety of eateries and shops. Above the Arctic Circle, the sun remains visible for 24 hours a day during the summer, creating the phenomenon of the midnight sun. In the winter, the extended darkness significantly increases your chances of witnessing the awe-inspiring Northern Lights, a truly magical experience.

At 10 am, we make a stop in Ørnes, a town located near Svartisen, Norway’s second-largest glacier. Ørnes is known for its picturesque pier, which features the Love Bench—a spot where sweethearts declare their lasting romance by attaching padlocks.

Our next destination is Bodø, the second-largest city in Northern Norway, set against the backdrop of the majestic Børvass peaks. In Bodø, you can admire impressive street art or join an optional boat excursion to Saltstraumen, the world’s most powerful maelstrom, where the natural forces of the sea create swirling tidal currents.

In the afternoon, we enter the Lofoten archipelago. The approach is marked by the dramatic sight of the Lofoten Wall, a series of mountains that rise 1,000 meters high and seem to stretch endlessly along the horizon.

We then arrive in Stamsund, home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the Lofoten Islands. The town is busiest between January and April when Arctic cod, locally known as skrei, migrate from the Barents Sea to the Vestfjord to spawn, creating a bustling scene of fishing activity.

By evening, you’ll spot rows of traditional fishermen’s huts on stilts, known as rorbuer, indicating that we’ve reached the charming harbor of Svolvær, the main town of the Lofoten Islands.
